the weekender

Monochrome has been one of my favorite looks for the summer, especially white-on-white. I don't have a ton of white in my wardrobe however, so white/black has also been one of my go-tos.

On the weekends, I've found myself falling into a uniform: high-waisted shorts, crop top, comfy shoes. It's been really hot all summer, and most weekends I find myself going on long walks around the city so I need to wear something suitable. Is it bad to fall into a weekend rut? At least I haven't turned to wearing work out clothes all weekend.
Yesterday I treated myself to a little mani-pedi at a place a few blocks down. Not only was it cheap ($30!) but they also did a really good job. Hooray no more hangnails!

black/white/floral

So I fell off the posting wagon already, but only because I went home last weekend and was kept very occupied the whole time I was there! Photos above from the MoMA on 4th of July, below some outfits from a couple weeks ago.

And then Paul McCartney, the reason for my weekend trip back to the midwest (MN/Milwaukee). Seriously the man is superhuman, he's 71 and played for 3 hours without a break. WHAT. Here's one of my favorite pictures from "Live and Let Die," he's at the piano.

I'm Back, Baby

Hey world, since starting my internship this summer I've had a renewed interest in restarting/redesigning my blog, so here goes! Looking at a lot of other blogs is part of my job, and I've kind of discovered what I like and what I don't like, so I'm going to be trying to implement those things to the best of my ability. These photos are from my first few weeks in NYC and a weekend adventure in Boston.

Eggcellent

Man oh man, today has been a big day in the Wigley household. After getting up this morning and easing into the day with a little I Found the Gown and a Caribou, I went over to Natalie's house to drop off some photos and the spare key I had during our road trip. Her mama's going out to visit this weekend, so we figured she could just bring the photos out and bring my iPad, which had gotten left behind, back here. We chatted and then I was off to Target. For maybe the third time in my life ever, I went into Target and left without buying anything. Blasphemy! I had gone to look at the new Shops at Target collections, but there was nothing that really caught my eye, so I just left. Then I went to Office Depot to get a trapper keeper and folders for my upcoming stage managing duties. Finally, I drove out to Maple Grove to go to Nordstrom Rack for leggings. After an awkward encounter with a middle-aged man in his car as I was walking into the store, I was pleasantly surprised at the selection at this Nordstrom. Usually I just go to the one at MOA, but this one is really close and has a good jean selection. I got 2 pairs of leggings, and 3 pairs of tights. Hooray!

Some homegrown cherry tomatoes from our backyard

After a quick stop at home, my mom and I were off to run more errands. We had discovered today that my passport expired this month, so to begin we went to Wayzata to get some photos taken for that. After being told to not smile, but have a "neutral" expression, we got those taken care of in about 10 minutes. Then we headed to Ridgedale, and got my new passport forms and my mom's license renewal done in less than an hour, which is unheard of. Usually the line there is so long and so slow, that it takes at least an hour or two to get in and out; but not today! Then we went to Walgreen's and got flu shots (merp), and to reward ourselves got Cherry Berry froyo. After froyo, we made a snap decision to go to Foresome to check for Minnetonka Moccasins, and behold! They had the pair I wanted for cheaper than Macy's! They also carry Frye boots, which is my main thing I'm asking for this year for Christmas, and they can order you any kind you want! We also get about 15-20% off everything there because my dad is somehow a VIP member. Super rad.

The old and the new

Here's where the eggcitement really began. It was then that my mom remembered that she had accidentally left the stove on with some eggs boiling. Ruh roh. We rushed home to be greeted with the smell of burnt eggs and smokiness. Luckily, nothing caught on fire, so then I, at least, was able to see how hilarious this was. We had an eggsplosion! One of the eggs had just exploded out of the pan, while the other three were so burnt that when touched with a spoon, they crumbled to ash. Our house smells pretty bad, but the whole eggsperience was pretty eggxilerating.

Crafty McCrafterson

Yesterday the madre and I took the long awaited Target trip! We also stopped at Ulta, Step n' Strech (a dance supply store), the jeweler, and Bob's shoe repair. Now my black boots and family heirloom ring should be like new by next week! We also got the watch that my sister gave me for my birthday sized (finally), so now I can wear it all day erry day. Allie came over after work and we watched The Shining- it was the first time I had ever seen it and boy, was it a stressful experience. I also came out of it just very confused, and so spent another hour researching while we watched The Dead Files and then fell asleep on the couch.

Slept in this morning and discovered an ANTM marathon on Style network. HoCho for breakfast and fighting through some strength training because squat jumps yesterday killed my thighs. Then I got all cleaned up to go out in public and ran some very exciting errands to Plato's Closet to try and sell some clothes, Target to pick up photos, Michael's to get some craft supplies, then back to Plato's Closet where I got a whopping $7. Wowee!!

I found this outfit to be pretty versatile, with different ways to wear the denim shirt. I chose today to wear it buttoned like in the right photo. The off-white crochet bustier is one of three tops I ordered from Brandy Melville in Cali- they finally arrived yesterday! So SoCal.

Now I've been really into crafting, because what else is there to do when everyone else is at school? Today I picked up materials for a necklace/jewelry holder, and some paper and modpodge to cover these plastic storage boxes I have and to make a charging station.
Picture frame, sticks, nails, and hot glue was all it took! I'm excited to get this to school and actually have something to put mah jewelry on other than Command hooks.

This collage I made last week to hang on my wall at school. I have some leftover pictures that I cut out from magazines, so I'm thinking of making one for my future pledge daughter. Or someone else who wanted one. Any takers? Employ me!

Fashion and Fitness... Sort Of

Mrahhh. I'm so sore today it's redonk; cannot get myself to do anymore exercise today. I got up early this morning (and by early I mean 9) and went on a run once I was awake enough to move around 9:30. Got back and watched What Not to Wear before forcing myself to mow the lawn. I don't know why, but mowing the lawn is one of my least favorite things to do ever. The lawn mower doesn't like me and refuses to work properly a lot of the time. Today, it took almost 2 hours to mow when it usually takes 1 because the grass was so thick and the mower was being extra persnickety. I went until the gas ran out, so there's an awkward little patch that is still un-mowed. Oh well, I'll have to do that once the parents return.

I tried my first kale smoothie today. It was an interesting experience. It was good for 1/3 or so of the glass, and then I got real sick of it real fast. However, it did fill me up and has a bunch of healthy properties etc. I have one made up for tomorrow, and enough supplies to make another batch later this week.

Tonight Allie, Kate, and I went to the Rembrandt in America exhibit at the Minneapolis Institute of Art. It included about 50 pieces, with around 30 attributed to Rembrandt and the rest to his studio or circle of followers. It was a wonderful exhibit, mostly portraits with information on Rembrandt's life. We got Jimmy's beforehand and then Kate and I peaced after the exhibit. Now I am watching True Grit for the first time and looking up hair inspiration for my hair cut tomorrow. Unfortunately I did not get to doing any clothing or craft work, but that's all less important. Tomorrow morning I'll have to do my clothes ish and clean the house in preparation of the rents impending return.

I want it to be just past shoulder length, but other than that I'm a little lost. I just hope Don can work his magic and make it pretty. I really like the look on the left- I think I want a more severe side part, but this style itself would require using curlers in my hair. Willing to do that? Maybe, unclear, we shall talk to Don.

Zen Fountain

New nail color! OPI Germany Collection

Appliance purchasing is done! Today Allie and I headed back to Sears for the sale and she bought her fridge and dishwasher as well. The dishwasher and stove are being delivered on next Monday and I am to meet the delivery men. The fridge is backordered because it was 27% off and super popular, so that's being delivered once I'm back at school. Then we went to Target and I found many things I will be getting once the parents return. I did buy one thing that I thought was super necessary: a small "relaxation fountain." I feel very zen and such. Also it was like $14 so how could I not buy it?

We made pigs in a blanket, sweet potato fries, and corn and watched House until Allie had to go back to her apartment (she has work tomorrow) and I had to go to Sara's house to return a pair of shorts and a t-shirt I had borrowed. Much to my dismay, when I arrived this kid who went to high school with us and is friends/neighbors with Sara was there. The last time I saw him was at graduation or a graduation party I'm pretty sure. So... awkward. But it was fine, I stayed for about an hour then came home and did late-night strength training. Now I know you're not supposed to exercise late at night, but I did last night as well to make myself feel a little better, and so thought I should do the same tonight. Now my muscles are fatigued and it'll hopefully be as easy to fall asleep tonight as it was last night!

Now, I'm making a little schedule for my week. Tuesday: fitness and fashion, planning on running, mowing the lawn, cleaning out the closet, maybe some crafting, and then going to the Rembrandt exhibit with the sisters. Wednesday: hair and Aunt Meg, finishing up what I didn't do on Tuesday, getting my hair cut, and spending the night at my Aunt Meg's house. Thursday: relaxation station, breakfast with Aunt Meg, parents get home (probably), chillin' wit da fam. That's all I got. I have a long  To Do list on the fridge, but the majority of items I need to do with my mama so that'll be spread out over the next week.
